The Calm and Sense Story
No one’s life is a smooth and straight road. People often hit bumps along the way that can set them back to where they began or even knock them off the road altogether. At Calm and Sense, our professional staff are committed to putting our client’s needs first and being there to help them find a solution to whatever obstacle is getting in the way of their happiness.
From Humble and Passionate Beginning
Calm and Sense founder, Rosanne Tobey has worked as a dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for more than 15 years, caring deeply about her clients and their wellbeing. As Rosanne’s business grew she found that there were only so many hours in the day to help people. Rather than turn people in need of help away, Rosanne decided in 2008 to surround herself with other like-minded and passionate therapists who are committed to putting the patient’s needs first. Since then, the Calm and Sense team has grown to 14 dedicated employees and two locations that serve those in need of support. Calm and Sense takes pride in ensuring every individual that walks through their door is treated with respect and dignity and is never treated like a number in the system.
Where Does The Name “Calm & Sense” Come From
Self-reflection is one of the greatest skills to help people make sense of their lives. It helps them evaluate their strengths and see how they can best make use of those strengths. It also teaches them how to handle situations differently and learn from the mistakes they have made. Self-reflection is best done when a person has a calm, relaxed and clear mind. We wanted our name to capture how a person can best reflect on themselves – by calming down and making sense of where they are, along life’s road.
Empowering Others
Hollywood often paints a picture of therapy as a journey where a character undergoes self-exploration to reveal their flaws and weaknesses. Our professional staff don’t believe therapy is a journey of discovering one’s flaws and weakness, but rather a journey to explore one’s strengths and talents. We like to focus on what clients can do and help them discover how their strengths and talents can overcome the obstacles in their lives that are interfering with their happiness.
Our Values
Calm and Sense’s core values can be summed up in three words: respect, compassion and commitment. These are the three words all our employees stand by at our practice. We respect every individual that walks through our door, no matter their background or the road they have taken that has led them to us. We respect people because we understand that it’s not easy to walk through our doorway, put your trust in another person and leave yourself vulnerable. Being trusting and vulnerable is one of the bravest things a person can do and our professional staff respect people that have the courage to do it. Our staff believe that compassion is the best way to treat a situation, which is why it is our second core value. Compassion builds people up whereas judging knocks people down. Lastly, commitment is our third core value. Each situation our staff encounter with a client is as unique as the people we deal with. Not every problem is solved in one visit; most will take several visits. Our staff are committed to helping people work through the obstacles that are in their lives no matter how long it takes.
Our Staff
Our professional staff approach every individual and situation as its own unique case. They understand people’s journeys to where they are in life are all different and that there isn’t a “copy and paste” answer that will fix every problem. Our therapy sessions are tailored to meet each individuals’ needs, because while symptoms may be the same, people are not. Our professional staff have a wide variety of experience and therefore are able to address issues in many different areas. We specialize in individual therapy working with adults, adolescents, and children, but also offer group, and family counseling.
